STEPS TO RESTORING YOUR WOOD PRODUCTS
Step 1: Evaluating.
The first step in restoring your deck, fence, or other wood structure is to determine the current condition of the surface. Once you have determined what your project needs, the restoration can begin.
Step 2: Repairing The Wood.
The second step involves replacing any damaged wood, replacing any missing nails or screws and ensuring all remaining nails and screws are properly installed with no heads protruding above the wood's surface.

Step 3: Cleaning The Wood.
The third step involves cleaning the surface. As with cleaning any surface, special care must be taken to ensure the surface is not damaged. Extreme pressure can crack, splinter or fur pressure treated wood. A special cleaning agent should be used to clean the surface, which, in turn, will eliminate the need for high pressure. This cleaning solution will remove dirt, grime and restore the original color to the wood.
Step 4: Inspection.
After cleaning is complete...the wood should be inspected to ensure no damage has occurred. Special consideration should be given to hard to clean areas.
Step 5: Drying Out.
Pressure treated wood should dry for a minimum of 48 hours before any stain, paint or sealer is applied. Assuming proper drying time has occurred, a second inspection takes place, checking for areas such as hand rails which may need sanding.
Step 6: Sealing The Wood
Step six is the sealing of your wood. Every project differs in the amount of sealer needed for proper protection. Whether you choose, stain, sealer or paint, we strongly recommend using only products with UV protection. Although no product lasts forever, these products do a better job projecting your wood surface.
Step 7: Final Inspection
A final walkthrough should be completed with the customer, to ensure you are satisfied with the results. |
